DD-019: Cosmic JD

Cosmic JD is a producer/DJ and digital artist born in Colombia but raised by the world. He has been an active artist for the underground electronic music scene in Ecuador, but made his way north to Toronto, where he resides now.

He had released material with his own label Terapia Studio, as well as with the New York based labels Intermission LTD and Cotopaxi Records. With his project Elextra, a production duo with LuloLuv, they've release music with Anusual Records and have forthcoming EP's with the Mexican-based label Dialtone and will provide the sounds for DigDeep’s first official EP to be released this Summer.

Cosmic JD has been playing for the last 5 years at many parties and festivals in Colombia, Argentina, Ecuador, The United States and Canada. He is also the founder of the Hypnotic Mindscapes collective in Toronto, which organizes monthly parties and digital art installations with local & international artists. Hypnotic Mindscapes features a monthly visual installation for The Modern Love Affair monthy held at Footwork in Toronto.

DD-017: DeadlyVanity

Residing in Toronto, Deadly Vanity is comprised of Joel Waznicky and James MacGregor. A relationship that started in their hometown evetually grew while playing guitar in different bands and ultimately flourished when they started a band together. Out of a necessity of growth they naturally gravitated towards electronic dance music, constantly finding themselves on dance floors across the city. The music's emotional expressiveness and endless sonic possibilities drove them to pursue djing and producing dance music of their own. Within their first year they've played numerous clubs in Toronto with some of the city's freshest up & comers, as well as throwing various events of their own. In 2012 they already find themselves with a brand new internet radio show on dubplate.fm entitled Dead Air and a guest mix on Jeff Button's DigDeep Podcast. Going with this momentum, Deadly Vanity continues to work hard in their studio in pursuit of releasing their own productions.

Ever since their infamous debut at the Pirates Boat Cruise, this determined duo has been on a quest to solidify their name and unique sound among the best in the industry. From Bangladesh and Ukraine respectively, Rafwat Shauki and Andrew Chorniy have combined cultures, experiences and raw talent to produce a musical force to be reckoned with. Their groovy tech-laced sounds have garnered them high acclaim in the flourishing Toronto scene and they’ve proven that they possess the ability to wreak similar havoc abroad. Having already performed alongside the likes of Reboot, Butch, Tim Green, Saeed Younan, Edu Imbernon & Coyu and a plethora of Toronto’s finest, this pair shows no signs of slowing down and is here to stay.

irGO: Inspiration behind this mix: the past 12 months have been groundbreaking in the realm of electronic music. So many new producers have brought out unique sounds, and so it's really difficult to stay on top of what's hot. This mix is a collection of tracks that I've collected and used over the past year, and thought they would work well together. My favourite track of this mix is the opener: M A N I K's edit of the mid-80's hiphop classic "Jam on it!". Happy listening!

It’s National #TalkLikeaPirateDay - so I had to find someone appropriate. Someone who likes boats. Someone who owns an eye patch. That someone, was none other than Gera. Not only does he fit the bill for all the above mentioned, he is also a standup guy - and a hell of a talented producer and DJ. Recently remixed by the likes of Pezzner, you can also find Gera blowing it up in the Toronto scene playing high profile gigs with the Platform crew. From the opening of this mix, you’ll be hooked. I’m extremely excited to present this instalment of DigDeep. Tyson Lambert randomly discovered this guy’s sounds on Soundcloud, and quickly passed a link over to me. I was shocked I had never heard of “The Noodleman” before. He quickly became one of my go-to DJ’s for that sleazed out funk n’ soul slo-mo house. Hard to argue there are many out there doing it any better than he is right now. We met at The Modern Love Affair party back in May, and not only did he end agreeing to a mix, he hooked me up with an EXCLUSIVE - chalked full of unreleased gems and edits that give you an idea of what this guy is capable of.... funkin’ greatness.
